Endowment Fund History

Our Mission
The Endowment Fund was established in 1994 as a separate fund for the benefit of the Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula, Inc. with the purpose of providing a perpetual source of funds to support the League’s community programming.

***Due to economic conditions, the JLPA•MP Board of Directors declined to ask for contibution to the General Fund from the Endowment Fund.


Historical Timeline

June 1992 – January 1994Researched, developed and approved the establishment of an Endowment Fund.
January 1994Finalized first Endowment Fund Board of Directors. Endowment Fund is seeded with $80,000 from the League’s General Fund.
July 1996Endow the Future Campaign launched with case statement and collateral materials with the goal to reach $300,000 in 2 1/2 years.
Fall of 1996Established a designated fund with the Peninsula Community Foundation for management and investment.
March 1997First distribution given to the League when the Fund reached $150,000.
January 1998Endow the Future Campaign goal reached with several months to go.
Summer 2000Established Legacy Leaders, an honorary society of members who plan a future gift to the Endowment Fund in their estate plan. Seventeen League members charter the Legacy Leaders.
November 2000JLPA•MP transferred $355,000 of reserve funds into the League-designated account to maximize growth of funds under management and positively affect contributions to the General Fund, while maintaining access to the funds.
May 2001JLPA•MP Endowment Fund chosen by AJLI as the Outstanding Fund Development Program of the year, at the Association’s Annual Conference in Dallas.
Spring 2004Fund balances returned to pre-September 11 levels and continued to grow as the market recovered.
Fall 2005Funds of the Endowment transferred to TIFF for management and investment.
Spring 2006Endowment Fund Board decided to launch a second campaign with the goal to grow the fund to $2.5 million by April of 2010.
Spring 2007Campaign for the Future II launched.
Spring 2008Pledges and donations to Campaign for the Future II totaled $836,262.
Spring 2009
Campaign for the Future II reached 75% of $1.2 million goal.
