From the President
With a fresh perspective of “We can and we will – together all in,” the Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula (JLPA•MP) seeks to accomplish a great deal over the next several years!
As we engage our member base of almost 1,000 dedicated, professional, well-educated women, we look forward to welcoming new ideas on how to implement community change. We especially embrace the fact that we have a wealth of in-house knowledge from not only Active members and Sustainers, but also brand new members, making us truly better – together.
This year, as our focus has shifted to “Empowering Girls to be STEM Leaders of Tomorrow”, we’ve made a very concerted effort to provide mission-based training for members so that they may not only enjoy the full value of our meetings and events, but also feel a sense of League pride. We endeavor to recognize and celebrate our members’ accomplishments whenever possible, and want to continue to invite high caliber guest speakers to present at our General Membership Meetings for member enrichment as we seek the advancement of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We’re even making a diverse set of Done in a Day projects available for members to have an immediate impact on the communities in our service area, and ensuring a wide variety of events for our members to enjoy – from Fashion Soireés at Bloomingdale's to our Pumpkins and Poker event.
We want all levels of membership to have a League experience that is as energizing and engaging as possible, so that members have the opportunity to always learn something new as we continue our 50+ year legacy. After all, since our founding in 1965, the JLPA•MP has served the needs of our community through leadership and action of trained volunteers by supporting more than 94 community service projects, awarding nearly 200 grants to area nonprofit organizations and contributing thousands of volunteer hours to our community.
All of this would be impossible without the financial support of our members and our community partners. I am proud that so many people and organizations join me in championing our mission in ways that are meaningful to each donor, such as underwriting support, donations to The Shop, corporate matching funds, Endowment Fund gifts, membership commitments and planned gifts. I extend a sincere “thank you” to each and every one of our donors for their continued support.
President, 2016-2017 Board of Directors
