Description

One of the most common questions and remarks during the “Zoom In Speak Out” event hosted by Jennifer and LaShonda was “I feel the pain that runs through black and poc communities, but I just don’t know where to start when it comes to taking action for social justice” Because it is really difficult to take meaningful action without a certain level of understanding of what the issues at hand are, where they originated from and how the people most impacted feel, the idea of hosting a book club meeting that focused on authors of color popped up.

We hope many of our amazing Actives and Sustainers will take this as an opportunity to read from some of the greatest minds and writers of our time and be open to listen, be vulnerable and discover something new. We cannot move forward as an organization and as a country if we do not do “THE WORK”.

“Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates is our October 4th book club choice! If you can order and/or pick up from a local bookstore, let’s help our neighbors and support local businesses! AND let’s not forget the public library.

If you are not a member of the Junior League and wish to attend, please email learn@thejuniorleague.org for more information.  Thank you for your interest.
