Past Grants

Through its community grants program, the Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula (JLPA•MP) seeks to respond to critical community needs in our geographic service area (San Mateo to Sunnyvale) by providing grants to nonprofit agencies for new programs, specialized training, capital expenditures and emergency and general operating funds.

Eligible nonprofit agencies must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, demonstrate financial stability and utilize community volunteers to support their programs.

Programs requesting funding must fit with our overall mission and focus area.

MISSION: The JLPA•MP is an organization of women whose mission is  to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

FOCUS AREA: The  JLPA•MP focuses on improving the well being of its community through programs and community partnerships that address the impacts of systemic poverty on the physical and mental health of individuals and families, including the lack of sufficient housing, food, and provisions.

PAST GRANT RECIPIENTS

 

2024-2025

EMERGENCY GRANTS

The Junior League of Los Angeles Wildfire Relief Fund and The Junior League of Pasadena’s Eaton Fire Relief Fund (Emergency Grant) — $1,000 each in support of wildfire relief efforts.

The Junior League Disaster Relief Fund (Emergency Grant) — $1,000 in support of hurricane relief efforts in the Southeast (Hurricane Helene).

COMMUNITY GRANTS

CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse) — $10,000 to support CORA’s Safe House and Supportive Housing program for residents of San Mateo County that provides a confidential and secure living space, safety, and trauma-informed wrap-around services and resources for survivors (including children witnesses) fleeing intimate partner abuse. CORA’s safe houses are for all genders and are culturally responsive.

Hope’s Corner — $15,000 to support the “Healthy Food for Hope” meal program, which strives to meet the ever-increasing demand for nutritious meals by hungry seniors, adults, and children. Specifically, this grant would cover the cost of 9,000 meals over a 12-month period.

HIP Housing ­— $50,000 to provide rent for families in our community and continue our partnership on the Pop-up Shop to empower women who are seeking employment and other opportunities.

There With Care — $25,000 to provide supplies for patient and family support programs.

 

2023-2024

EMERGENCY GRANTS

Samaritan House of San Mateo (Emergency Grant) — $1,000 in recognition of their relentless dedication to combating poverty in San Mateo County.

COMMUNITY GRANTS

HIP Housing ­— $50,000 to provide rent for families in our community and a new partnership that will create a “pop up shop” to empower women who are seeking employment and other opportunities.

The Karat School Project — $5,000 to support a summer enrichment program for unhoused youth.

One Life Counseling — $15,000 to support native language counseling services.

Project READ Redwood City — $34,185 to provide supplies for Project STEAM, which provides hands-on STEAM activities, essential take-home groceries, and social emotional learning material to children and families who might not otherwise have access to these resources.

There With Care — $30,000 to provide supplies for patient and family support programs.

 

2022-2023

EMERGENCY GRANTS

LifeMoves (Emergency Grant) — $1,000 to provide warm clothing and rain gear to those in need in conjunction with our cold winter clothing drive.

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Art in Action — $85,000 for an extension of one year of our three-year partnership to support development of a STEM curriculum.

Project READ Redwood City — $15,000 supporting Project STEAM.

2021-2022

EMERGENCY GRANTS

Junior League of Baton Rouge and The Junior League of New Orleans (Emergency Grant) — $300 each in support of hurricane relief efforts.

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Art in Action — $85,000 for the second year of a three-year partnership with Art in Action to develop STEM curriculum that will be tested locally and made available nationally to impact over 85,000 students.

Project READ Redwood City — $15,000 supporting Project STEAM.

2020–2021

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Youth Community Service (YCS) — $900 for two scholarships to the YCS Summer Program

Art in Action — $85,000 for the first year of a three-year partnership with Art in Action to develop STEM curriculum that will be tested locally and made available nationally to impact over 85,000 students.

Art in Action — $10,000 for the Belle Haven Summer Program.

Project READ Redwood City — $15,000 to support Project STEAM.

2019-2020 

EMERGENCY GRANTS

Gilroy Foundation (Emergency Grant) — $500 grant for the Gilroy Garlic Festival Victims Relief Fund.

COVID-19 EMERGENCY GRANTS

The COVID-19 Emergency Grants focused on organizations with a direct impact on the community in the areas of housing, hunger and safety to provide additional support at the start of the pandemic.

LifeMoves — $2,500 (Matched by anonymous donors, Wells Fargo and Franklin Templeton for a total impact of $5,000) Sponsored a meal at a service site, provided personal protective equipment (PPE), and provided enhanced cleaning services.

Live in Peace #FirstOfTheMonth Emergency Fund Campaign — $5,000 #FirstOfTheMonth was a campaign created by Live in Peace, Kafenia Peace Collective, and Dreamers Roadmap to provide rent assistance to service workers in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City.

Samaritan House of San Mateo — $5,000 (Matched by our Board of Directors for a total impact of $10,000). Provided support to Samaritan House’s food, clothing, housing, and financial empowerment programs.

Second Harvest Food Bank — $2,500 (Matched by Second Harvest Friends and Google Alumni for a total impact of $5,000). Provided healthy meals to neighbors in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
